Honda Civic Type RFK8

The FK8 Type R is a dedicated wide-body hatch platform often compared across street and track tire choices.

Know this generation.

FK8 wheel choice is about steering behavior as well as outer-fender position. Apex discusses offset selection in terms of scrub radius and torque steer, and distinguishes its higher-offset performance options from appearance-focused combinations. A more outward wheel is not automatically the better-driving setup.

Mounting details belong in the comparison too. The cited guide specifies centering rings for some of its wheel bores and tapered-seat aftermarket nuts rather than assuming the factory hardware transfers. These requirements are wheel-specific. Confirm the actual bore, seat and brake-clearance drawing with the manufacturer of the wheel being installed.

Before you choose wheels.

A good-looking setup is only useful if the details match your car. Start with these generation-specific checks.

  1. Distinguish an appearance-focused outward offset from a setup selected to preserve steering characteristics; document why the owner chose it.
  2. Check the exact wheel bore and nut-seat requirement. Do not reuse factory nuts solely because their thread fits the studs.
  3. For an aggressive tire package, record negative camber and any fender modification rather than calling all FK8 wheel positions direct-fit.

Record the complete setup.

Track front and rear separately, even on a square setup. Wheel diameter and width alone cannot establish clearance.

Wheels
Exact brand and model, diameter × width, nominal offset, bolt pattern and hub bore.
Spacers
Explicit front and rear thickness in millimeters. Enter zero only after confirming there are no spacers.
Tires
Brand, model and full size on each axle. Nominal sizes do not guarantee the same measured section width.
The car
Market, model year, trim, body style, brake package, suspension, alignment and any fender modifications.
Real-world result
Rubbing at steering lock, under compression and with passengers or cargo. Include conditions, not just “fits.”
Effective offset = wheel offset − spacer thickness

A spacer moves the wheel outward, but an offset calculation does not prove brake, tire, suspension or body clearance.
